Austin Reams to Speak on Novel “The Superunknowns” at Rose State College, Oklahoma City, OK

Austin Reams will speak at Rose State College, Tom Steed Center, on October 11, 2016, 7-9 pm, about the publication and marketing of his novels, “The Superunknowns” and “The Morning Tree.” The event is hosted by Mid Oklahoma Writers, and is free and open to the public. Austin Reams is the author of the science fiction novel, “The Superunknowns,” set in Oklahoma City. Austin is a local litigation attorney and father to twin, seven-year-old girls. He will speak about the inspiration for this novel, including the encroachment of “smart phones,” PCs and technology on our privacy and intellectual lives, and the potential risks to future generations. He will also speak about revolutionary changes in publishing, and opportunities arising therefrom, including writing, producing, publishing and marketing novels without traditional publishing houses.

In “The Superunknowns,” seventy-five years in the future, life is experienced through contact lenses. The virtual world and real world are indistinguishable. This false reality is shattered when massive objects appear from the sun. Twin sisters, Edith and Irene, develop supernatural abilities and realize that the father who they believed was dead is actually alive in a debtor’s labor camp in middle America, Kansas, tolling with masses of others in a zombified state. The twins are kidnapped by the government to a deep underground military base. Edith is forced to take a polygraph and she learns she has the ability to know the answer to any fact-based question. She learns of her father’s plight, and fights with her sister, Irene, who is a Japanese sword master with telekinetic powers, to escape and destroy the system which has enslaved millions.

Austin was born in Bartlesville, and grew up in Oklahoma City, Ada, and Durant. He obtained a B.A. in Russian Language and Literature from Oklahoma State University, an MA from Boston University, and a JD from Oklahoma City University School of Law. He pursued graduate studies in Moscow in 1992, taught Russian Language at John Marshall High School, and worked as a political analyst at Los Alamos National Laboratory and as a Consultant to the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna. Austin met his wife, Ling, in law school, and they both passed the California Bar Exam in the summer of 2001. After practicing law in California, Austin returned to Oklahoma City, where he has worked as an attorney since 2005. In 2012, he founded the firm, Reams Law. He and his wife are raising twin daughters, Sophia and Lara, who provided much inspiration for “The Superunknowns.” Austin is also the author of the historical fiction, “The Morning Tree.”
