I sort of hate myself for loving this book.
It’s a replay of just about every post-modern alien story conceived. It’s plot borrows heavily from the whole Alien concept. It is like the infamous Roswell incident on steroids. And the path of its plot is similar to many of the other books he’s written.
But as far as guilty pleasures go, I just suspended reality, and let myself get lost in King’s prose with a science fiction background. If the point of writing is to entertain, then this book does the trick, and I recommend it to any King fan. ALL PAID LINKS #ad
On the other hand, if you don’t like King, you’re going to think this book is bloated with nothing new.
A bit of a side note: After reading this book (and I’m sure I’m not the only one who notices this), King has a reoccurring formula: All s#$& breaks loose in a small town when ______ invades/attacks, brining childhood friends back together to fight a good fight against all odds.
For example:
IT: All s#$& breaks loose in a small town when A CLOWN-MONSTER attacks, brining childhood friends back together to fight a good fight against all odds.
THE SHINING: All s#$& breaks loose in a small hotel when GHOSTS invade/attack, bringing a family back together to fight a good fight against all odds.
SALEMS LOT: All s#$& breaks loose in a small town when VAPIRES invade, brining childhood friends back together to fight a good fight against all odds.
DREAMCATCHER: All s#$& breaks loose in a small town when ALIENS invade, brining childhood friends back together to fight a good fight against all odds.
UNDER THE DOME: All s#$& breaks loose in a small town when EGOTISTICAL TOWNS PEOPLE attack, brining childhood friends back together to fight a good fight against all odds. (I hated this book.)
THE STAND: All s#$& breaks loose on planet earth when SATAN invades, brining complete strangers together to fight a good fight against all odds, in a small town Boulder, CO. (Okay, this doesn’t fit exactly, but there’s still some parallel.)
Anyway, I liked this book, and so did a lot of other people. It’s a good choice if you don’t know what to read and you like King and science fiction.
